Event Description
The 15th Annual Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival is a weekend chocolate celebration featuring renowned chocolatiers, artisans and chefs showcasing countless chocolate delicacies and decadent desserts, as well as family-friendly activities including the annual Earthquake Ice Cream Sundae Eating Contest.
All proceeds generated during the two-day festival will go to Project Open Hand, a San Francisco non-profit organization that provides meals and groceries to senior citizens and seriously and critically ill individuals. Over the past 15 years, the Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival has raised a total of more than $500,000 for Project Open Hand. Festival organizers look forward to continuing to support the community organization and helping those in need.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can expect to indulge in chocolate delicacies, listen to live music by several local bands, test-drive the 2011 CTS Coupe and SRX at the Cadillac Ride & Drive, enjoy chef demonstrations at the Cadillac Culinary Stage and partake in Cellar 360’s wine pairing seminars...all while enjoying the views of the San Francisco waterfront. Artisan vendors will man chocolate sampling stations set up throughout Ghirardelli Square and along Beach Street, showcasing an array of chocolate-inspired treats.
Overall, more than 35 chocolate vendors and restaurants will participate in the decadent chocolate-themed weekend including Ana Mandara, Bo’s Best Pancakes, Café-Razi, CC Made, Crown & Crumpet Tea Salon, Desserts On Us, Inc., Funky Monkey, Goodytwos Toffee Company, Ghirardelli Chocolate, GUDFUD, Kara's Cupcakes, Leedbetter’s Bake Shop, Leonidas Fresh Belgian Chocolate, Lori's Diner, McCormick & Kuleto's, Organic Pastures Dairy Company, Sterling Confections, Sweet, The Cookie Tree, The Pub, and The Tea Room. One of the festival highlights, the “Hands Free” Earthquake Ice Cream Sundae Eating Contest, is always a major spectacle at the weekend event, where adults and children ages five to 12 dive head first into Ghirardelli Square’s signature Earthquake Ice Cream Sundaes piled high and smothered with Ghirardelli Chocolate Sauce. The winner takes home the grand prize of a giant basket of Ghirardelli Chocolate.
