The topic I’ve confronted is the ending of the Mayan Calendar in 2012 and the fear that the media has instilled in people. According to the Discovery Channel and their multiple specials on 2012: on December 21, 2012 the sun is going to aline with all of the planets in our solar system and there will be a polar shift, thus somehow making the Earth a fiery death trap. This is only one of hundreds of conspiracies out there. However, NASA has publicly expressed their confidence that nothing is going to happen.
The video starts as a news break on the day December 21, 2012. An eager reporter (Rosie Fry) who is a strong believer in the world’s demise, interviews a few people on how they feel about the date. Much to her dismay, everyone she speaks with either does not agree with her or simply does not care. The clock strikes the exact time the world supposedly ends, and the reporter is scared out of her wits. Nothing happens, and out of embarrassment the reporter becomes furious that everyone on Earth is not dead. The irony is, rather then the reporter being relieved and happy to be alive she’s angry about being wrong.
Although this video was made in December of 2009, the topic is still relevant, in fact, it'll be relevant for about another two years.
