In March of 2002 my husband and I adopted our Great Dane Milo (formerly Dude). He was taken out of a come in the Central Valley by Children's Protective Services(CPS) and taken to a high kill shelter. A great local group swooped in and took him.
At the same time I was trolling the internet trying to find a dog to adopt, I was not planning a Dane. I saw Milo and we drove to San Jose to go meet him. An hour later we were driving home with Milo in the backseat of my Beetle.
Milo ended up in the hospital for two weeks with Parvo, Distemper and Pneumonia. Thank God for our great vets, he came home to us and is now a favorite at the vets.
In January of 2007 he was diagnosed with Addison's disease, but is doing great with his daily treatment. That is why he wears jackets, he gets cold due to the disease.
While we may have saved Milo, there is no doubt Milo has saved me. I have been recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and would not be able to get through my days without him.Milo was our best man in our wedding in 2004 and he is the light of our lives. He sleeps in bed, he cuddles like a lap dog and makes people smile wherever we go.
