A Church Doin Good Things In Oakland

A small church "Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church" of Oakland is doing good in the community. The Out Reach Ministry operates a food pantry near downtown Oakland. We serve approximately 100 clients each month by providing free grociers to needy individuals and families towards the end of the month when food and money run low. We provide food from the 4 basic food groups, beverages and desserts. We provides food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

We also protect the environment by using cloth bags we purchased for our clients instead of plastic bags. We are proud that our clients bring the bags back every month.

Our program is operated completely by volunteers. We obtain food from several sources, two are the Alameda County Community Food Bank & The Society Of St. Vincent DePaul. We have received two min-grants. The San Francisco Foundation $5,000.00 and The United Way of The Bay Area $1,500.00.

We are in need of funds and/or donations for Christmas and the coming year. We are getting more clients every month due to the local economy and loss of income people are experiencing

Our clients express gratitude for the quantity and quality of food we provide.

We are in need of funding and hope we can get a van donated to use for picking up food. Please contact Bettie Johnson (510) 735-9770 if you wish to donate and/or volunteer.

We invite you to come out to our next food distribution on November 20, 2009 @659 16th Street & Martin Luther King, Jr. Way @ 10:00 A. M.
