Survey: More Bosses Taking Vacation Than Employees

Are you thinking of taking a vacation this year?  Your boss likely is, according to a new survey by CareerBuilder.

While the number of American workers who plan to take a vacation this year is up 4 percent from 61 percent last year, those numbers still fall below pre-financial crisis levels.  That's compared to 80 percent of managers and bosses who say they will be taking a vacation this year.

"Managers may be more likely to afford vacations, but they should still be encouraging their employees to use paid time off, even if they are staying close to home," said Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder.  "Heavy workloads and financial constraints can make it difficult to get away from work, but even if you're not traveling far from home, a few days away can have a very positive impact on your health and happiness."

Additionally the survey notes even if vacation time was used among employees, the duration of time off was shorter. Only 17 percent of workers said they would take a vacation longer than 10 days.
