SURVEY: Majority of Parents Believe There Should be Armed Guards in Schools

After the shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the National Rifle Association suggested that armed guards may be the answer to curbing violence in schools.

According to a recent Rasmussen survey, a majority of American parents agree, as 62 percent with school-aged children said they would feel safer if there were armed guards.

Twenty-two percent disagreed, stating they would feel safer in a gun-free school.

Nevertheless, an overwhelming majority felt some decision needed to be made on armed guards in school.

Fifty-four percent believe that allowing guns in the school should be a local decision, while 22 percent think the issue of armed guards in schools should be determined by state governments, and 14 percent want federal action.
