Blind Horse Rescued From Swimming Pool (With Photos & Video)

A bizarre story from Indiana, courtesy of Granite Broadcasting sister station Indiana's NewsCenter in Fort Wayne, Ind.

According to the report from Indiana's NewsCenter:

A homeowner in Terre Haute, Ind., woke up to a surprise Sunday morning. There was a blind horse stranded in his swimming pool.

At a little after 8 a.m., Jack Harvey called central dispatch to report that a horse had fallen through his swimming pool cover and into the pool filled with water. The horse's front legs were touching the bottom of the pool on the ramp section but it's rear legs were further in the deep end and it was becoming lethargic and was shivering.

Deputy Steve Meng responded to the call and after assessing the situation called for assistance. While they were waiting on assistance to arrive, the horse began to show signs that it was losing consciousness and Deputy Meng felt they needed to act.

Harvey brought his Jeep to the edge of the pool and they used a winch to help guide the horse up the ramp into the shallow end of the pool. It initially resisted but they were able to get her to move and Harvey's nephew, Cody Greenlee cut the pool cover as she moved to provide mobility.

They covered the horse with blankets and once assistance from the Linton Township Fire Department, Sugar Creek Fire Department, Deputy Bartlett, Conservation Officer Winchell, members of the Vigo County Sheriff's Posse and local veterinarian Dr. Holscher arrived they were able to coax her up the steps in the shallow end.

They then moved the horse inside Harvey's heated garage and she was treated with several medications by Dr. Holscher. Reports say she should recover without any issues.

Once authorities found the owner of the horse, they returned her to her home. It was then that they found out she was blind.
