According to a report from Granite Broadcasting sister station Indiana's NewsCenter in Fort Wayne, Ind., two people were killed Sunday when a small airplane crashed into multiple homes in South Bend, Ind.

According to Indiana's NewsCenter:

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson says there were four people on board a private plane, and two were killed. Other reports indicate two people on the ground also died, and that the other two passengers on the plane along with one person on the ground were injured.

Currently, rescue crews are still looking for victims.

Reports say a private plane, believed to be a Learjet, crashed into three homes in a neighborhood near South Bend Regional Airport. The plane took off from Tulsa, Oklahoma and was due to land at South Bend Regional Airport.

Officials say the pilot radioed for help before the crash citing technical problems, and tried to land safely but failed.

Residents in the area were evacuated by bus. Officials are working to shut off gas in the neighborhood due to a possible gas leak.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the scene.
